Alyaksandr Mіlіnkevіch not to take part in presidential elections (updated)
The leader of the “For Freedom” campaign Alyaksandr Milinkevich will not run for President. He has informed about it at a press conference in Minsk today, on September 17, reports BelPAN. To explain his decision, the politician has reminded that the Movement “For Freedom” urged to change the Election Code to make Belarusian elections fair, free and equitable.
Members of "For Freedom" wanted representatives of independent presidential contenders to count ballots together with members of election commissions. However, Lidziya Yarmoshyna claimed there would be no changes in the Election Code when the election date was announced.
Thus, Milinkevich has concluded that “we do not have any elections except for the election campaign itself”.
The politician has also noted that he does not urge to boycott the elections. According to the politician, he will take part in the elections as the coordinator of a civil action “Belarusian Choice”. The Movement “For Freedom”, the BNF Party, the Belarusian Party of the Greens and the union “For Modernization” headed by Ales Mihalevich have signed the agreement today, on September 17.
