Andrei Bastunets: Yancheuskі listened to us attentively and promised to deal with it

A meeting of representatives of the Belarusian Association of Journalists Zhanna Litvina and Andrei Bastunets with the head of the chief ideology department of the President’s Administration Usevalad Yancheuski took place yesterday. Let us remind you that the first attempt to talk to the chief ideologist of the country was made in September. “Belposhta” did not include a number of independent editions in the subscription catalogue-2009 back then. A meeting of their editors and BAJ was organized and it was decided to turn to the President’s Administration to solve the problem. However, an opportunity to talk to Yancheuski appeared only two months later. This is what Andrei Bastunets says:

"The first issue we discussed concerned the distribution of independent mass media, their inclusion in the subscription catalogue and the return of a number of other independent editions besides the two famous ones to “Belsayuzdruk” news-stalls as they had the same problems”.

According to Bastunets, they also talked about the working conditions of independent mass media, both national and regional, the accreditation of reporters including foreign journalists and the practice of applying the law on prevention of extremism.

Bastunets says that Usevalad Yancheuski listened to them attentively and promised “to work on the issues”:

"The interlocutor listened to us attentively and kept posing leading questions. We promised to present him some additional documents. It seems to me that the conversation was constructive”.
