Belarusian Ambassador accuses European Union of political extremism
The Belarusian Ambassador to the European Union Uladzimir Syanko has sent a letter to the EU administration. He has accused the European Union of “the policy of double standards and extremism”. “Charter-97” refers to the edition “European Voice” and informs that Syanko reminds about the decision of the EU Council taken in October 2008. The European Council claimed that it was necessary to go away from the policy of isolation of Belarus. At the same time Syanko “has forgotten” to recall the 12 EU democratization terms. They were listed in 2007 and none of them has even been partially fulfilled so far.
The diplomat claims that the EU and Belarus effectively cooperate in energy, transport, standardization, agriculture and ecology. Syanko demands an equal dialogue because the systematic total pressure on democratic freedoms is “a national trait and a Belarusian feature”.
The Ambassador has accused the initiators of the Euronest programme – a Parliamentary Assembly of the Eastern Partnership – of provocation and political extremism. He meant the idea to include 5 members of the House of Representatives and 5 opposition members in the Euronest.
