Belarusian Christian Democracy to see drop in number of nomination groups due to repressions
The leaders and activists of the Belarusian Christian Democracy today held a press conference at the premises of the Party of the Belarusian Popular Front titled "Repressions against the canididates from the organizing committee of the Belarusian Christian Democracy. Vital Rymasheuski, a co-chairman of of the organizing committee, told Euroradio that repressions against the candidates and the members of their nomination groups as well as those nominated as members of electoral commissions were on the rise. Activists receive phone calls from KGB with threats against their relatives as well as the threats to lose jobs.
According to the politician, this pressure will inevitably lead to the reduction of those who will take part in the upcoming local elections. "We have nominated 204 candidates. 204 nomination group were registered. Now, because of these repressions, we will see a reduced number of nomination groups", he said.
The Belarusian Christian Democracy said that at least 50 members of nomination groups would have to stop their political activities. According to Ramysheuski, a quarter of candidates have already been exposed to pressure from the KGB, but none is going to withdraw from the race.
