Coach hopes BATE will qualify for Champions League's last 16 next year

BATE Barysau manager Viktar Hancharenka said he was satisfied with his team's performance in Champions League Group H.

"It is important for us to participate in the Champions League because this is an opportunity to play Europe's best teams," Hancharenka, 31, said after BATE Barysau ended their first Champions League campaign with a hard-fought 0-0 draw at Juventus Turin on December 10. "Participation in this tournament helps make progress and gain confidence. It was a great honor for us to advance to the group stage. We hope to come back and qualify for last 16 next year."

The Belarusian club earned three points at the Champions League group stage, recording draws in both games against the Italian team and in an away clash against UEFA Cup winners Zenit St.Petersburg, according to BelaPAN.
