Detained activists stand trials in Minsk and Zhodzina
The activists detained by the police in Minsk and Zhodzina will stand trials on Monday. The organizers of the action to celebrate the Freedom Day will appear in a Zhodzina court. Around 50 people gathered on March 23 in a local park and marched to the memorial named "Heroes Live Forever". The demonstrators laid flowers and released white and red baloons.
The police detained Pavel Krasouski, Yuras Zhylka, Aliaksandr Kamarouski and Yury Silkin. They were charged with staging an unauthorized action and taken to a pre-trial detention facility.
In Minsk, Leninski District Court will today hear the case of Maryia Aliyeva and Alena Naporka. The women were detained in the evening of March 22 when they were disseminating Free Serebranka leaflets in public post boxes. 20 copies of the newspaper were found on Aliyeva, while Naporka had 46 copes in her bag.
The women were charged with disseminating the unregistered printed materials. Previously, distributors of the opposition materials would routinely be penalized with fines.
It is unprecedented that two pensioner women were placed in a police custody before the trial, notes Radio Svaboda.
