Dozens of Belarus's famous athletes back sports newspaper Pressball

Up to four dozens of Belarus's famous athletes have expressed support to the Minsk-based private sports newspaper Pressball which was denied accreditation at the Olympic Games in Beijing by the National Olympic Committee.

Every issue of the newspaper publishes opinions of athletes who express their discontent with this step of the sports officials and reiterate that such harsh measures against Pressball are unacceptable.

The list of those who have already expressed solidarity with the newspaper includes Olympic champions and medalists, world and European winners cyclist Natallya Tsyplinskaya, freestyler Dzmitry Dashchynski, sprinter Yulia Nestsyarenka, gymnast Hanna Hlazkova, basketball player Alena Shvaibovich, handballer Siarhei Rutenka and others, reports Radio Svaboda.

Pressball wrote an open letter to President Alexander Lukashenka who also seats as the chairman of the National Olympic Committee. Lukashenka has not responded to the situation yet. Eight years ago, his interference restored the newspaper's accreditation at the Olympic Games in Sydney.
