European Union is suggested to create the European Peace Institute

Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Sweden and Finland Carl Bildt and Alexander Stubb suggested creating the European Peace Institute under the authority of the European Union, informs RIA "Novosti". The Ministers presented their initiative in Stockholm. It is expected that the main function of the European Peace University will be assistance in solving conflicts. Namely, it could participate in the UNO work, as well as to assist to improve qualification of European experts and refine their preparation.

To the Ministers' opinion, the necessity to create the Institute can be explained by the fact that traditional diplomatic methods are not always sufficient in peace-making. Moreover, non-governmental peace-making and intermediary organizations  have more opportunities than politicians do, informs BelaPAN.
