Former director of “Zhdanovichy” fined for $31 million

The criminal case started against the director of “Zhdanovichy” market Yauhen Shyhalau will be stopped is he pays the state more than 31 million dollars. The damage he did to the environment is valued at this sum.
“Interfax” referred to the police and noted that it was the biggest damage ever done to the environment by an entrepreneur in Belarus.

The Minister of Internal Affairs informs that “Shyhalau has returned part of the sum. There is a schedule according to which he will return the rest”. However, it is not informed how much money has already been returned by the entrepreneur.

The police note that “the land mentioned in the criminal case may be left to “Zhdanovichy” market”.

Let us remind you that Yauhen Shyhalau, his deputy and state official were detained in Minsk on April 5, 2008. The director of “Zhdanovichy” was accused of “Power abuse”. He gave a written undertaking not to leave the country and was let off in summer.
