Letters to political prisoner written on Solidarity Day in Vitsebsk
A film dedicated to a human rights activist Yana Palyakova was shown in the European club in Vitsebsk on the Solidarity Day.
Let us remind you that the Salihorsk human rights activist commited suicide a year ago because she did not endure the pressure exercised by the police and the official press on her. Vitsebsk activists commemorated Yana Palyakova with a minute’s silence.
Having watched the film, the present decided to express solidarity with a political prisoner Aleh Surhan who is serving his sentence in Hlybokaye confinement cell now for having hoisted a white-red-white flag on a building in Vitsebsk. Aleh Surhan was accused of biting a policeman during his detention.
According to the Vitsebsk coordinator of the Steering Committee for creation of the BCD party Tatstsyana Sevyarynets, the addressee has received more than a dozen letters. Activists are also preparing a pleasant surprise for Aleh Surhan – a small library of Belarusian literature. However, according to the rules of detention, it is impossible to send him all the books at once; they have to be delivered one by one with the help of registered letters.
