Lukashenka: There were absolutely no reasons for gas dispute
There were absolutely no reasons for this gas conflict, Belarus leader Alexander Lukashenka said in an interview with Euronews on June 24. Lukashenka is quoted by the official news agency Belta as saying that this was an absolutely groundless dispute. He noted that Belarus owed Gazprom nearly $190 million for natural gas supplies, while the Russian energy giant owed Belarus $260 million in gas transit fees.
In his interview to Euronews, the head of the state also touched on his views about the perspectives of relations between Belarus and Russia and Belarus and the European Union. Lukashenka also mentioned the topic of the upcoming presidential elections.
The taped interview will be broadcast by Euronews in the evening of June 25. Belarus' state-owned Channel One has also promised to broadcast the full version of the interview on the same evening.
