Minister for Foreign Affairs of Federal Republic of Germany: It is unacceptable to beat candidates!

German government strictly condemned organization of the presidential election in Belarus and repressions against the opposition afterwards.  "It is unacceptable to harass, beat or arrest the opposition candidates and their supporters who wished to use their right for freedom of speech!" — said the Minister for foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany Guido Westerwelle.

"Germany is deeply concerned. There are many facts which point on non-correspondence of the Belarusian election to the international standards for conducting free and fair elections" — added the official representative of the federal government Steffen Seibert

As informed by "Gazeta.Ru" with a reference to Deutsche Welle, Seiibert was especially concerned by the fact that the majority of Belarusian presidential candidates were detained and some of them got injuries during the arrest.
