Minsk city collegium of lawyers will not conduct an extraordinary session

He has told that yesterday the Collegium's presidium considered the decision of the Ministry of Justice on deprivation the lawyers Aleh Aheeu, Tatsiana Aheeva, Uladzimir Tolstsik and Tamara Haraeva, who defended the "Dec.19" detainees, from their licences.

Commenting upon the Ministry's initiative on adoption of new rules of the professionsl ethics of a lawyer, Pylchanka stated an opinion that such rules "should be adopted exclusively by the lawyers' community". "The whole directive board of the Minsk city collegium of lawyers called the situation critical. They are convinced that it threatens the independence of advocacy as a legal institution, and independence of lawyers", — the Chairman of the collegium explained. He added, that the decision to summon an extraordinary session was connected with the above. 

On that very day, February 18, the Minister of Justice Victar Halavanau signed the order to expel Aliaksandr Pylchanka from the qualification committee for advocacy issues.

The collegium's presidium has decided not to conduct an extraordinary session, BelaPAN informs.
