Minsk City Executive Committee forbids picket in defense of liberty of conscience
Minsk City Executive Committee has not allowed holding a picket in defense of the right for the liberty of conscience. The organizer of the action, co-leader of the steering committee of the party “Belarusian Christian Democracy” Alyaksey Shein informed about it.
According to him, he received a refusal on June 3. The picket was to take place at Bangalor Square in Minsk on June 8.
The organizers of the action wanted to express their protest against the violation of rights of followers of Christian creeds and to draw the public’s attention to problems of the liberty of conscience in the country. “The refusal of Minsk City Executive Committee is explained by some formal reasons – the authorities were not satisfied with the way the necessary documents had been prepared”, - informed A.Shein. A similar action was to take place at Liberty Square in Minsk at the end of April. The authorities refused the organizers explaining it by the fact that the action might cause inconvenience for the city dwellers.
