Minsk court upholds suspended sentence for oppositionist's brother

A district court in the Belarusian capital Minsk upheld the verdict to Kanstancin Lukashou, a brother to the prominent opposition politician Viacaslau Siucyk. In February 2007, Lukashou was found guilty of attacking a police officer on duty and sentenced to two years of suspended prison term.

In March 2006, Lukashou was driving Siucyk out of a hospital when police were trying the arrest the opposition activist. He allegedly hit a police officer with his car. Lukasou spent several months behind bars during the investigation. He is set to appeal the court ruling at the UN Human Rights Commission, reports Belapan.
