OSCE mission starts monitoring Belarus elections today

On August 19, the Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (ODIHR) at the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will dispatch long-term observers to various regions of Belarus. They will start monitoring the election campaign in Belarus. The OSCE's ODIHR office in Minsk told the European Radio for Belarus that observation teams comprise 40 people from 22 countries.

ODIHR OSCE: “The mission was officially launched on August 12. Long-term observers join the work todau. There are 40 people from 22 countries to cover all the regions of Belarus".

The OSCE will also dispatch around 300 short-term observers that are to arrive in Belarus just few days ahead of the polls to monitor the polling procedures, vote count and the wrap-up of the parliamentary elections.
