Over 30 Polish minority activists detained en route to Ivyanets
Nearly 100 activists from the Union of Poles in Belarus, led by Anzjalika Borys, toda in the morning headed to Ivyaniets. At 1700, the local Polish house is scheduled to gather a meeting on the change of the local Polish minority leaders, initiated by the authorities. But only a half of delegates from Hrodna were able to reach Ivyanets. Polish minority activist Andrei Pachobut told the European Radio for Belarus that the traffic police detained over 30 people. They would simply impound driving permits and take the holders to nearby police stations”.
Teresa Sobal, the head of the Ivianets branch of the Union of Poles in Belarus, was today summoned for interrogation to the Valozhyn district police department. She is scheduled to meet with an investigator at 1600. The Union of Poles in Belarus passed a unanimous resolution earlier to support Teresa Sobal.
