PACE rapporteur meets with opposition leaders in Minsk

Andrea Rigoni, rapporteur on Belarus of the Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly (PACE), met with Belarus' opposition leaders during his stay in Minsk on the evening of June 8.

Taking part in the meeting were Anatol Lyabedzka, leader of the United Civic Party (UCP); Vintsuk Vyachorka, deputy chairman of the Belarusian Popular Front (BPF); Valer Ukhalyow, secretary of the Belarusian Party of Communists; and former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin, BelaPAN reported.

 

The opposition leaders urged PACE to mediate talks between the opposition and authorities on the democratization of electoral regulations and conditions for the media, political parties and non-governmental organizations.
