Presidium of UDF political council presses to release political prisoners
The presidium of the political council of the United Democratic Forces has distributed an appeal connected with the detention of Yury Karetnikau on suspicion of connection with the explosion that took place in Minsk on July 4.

"The wave of repressions directed against the opposition during the election campaign has not stopped. It is growing more and more intense”, - claim the authors of the appeal. In their opinion, the detention of Karetnikau means that the authorities “did not want to take the advice of the democratic forces not to use the explosion as a cause for political repressions”.
The UDF administration notes that Yury Karentnikau took part in the work of a summer democracy university in Strasbourg from June 29 till July 6. He was invited there by the Council of Europe.
The presidium of the UDF political council has demanded to release all political prisoners as soon as possible.
"We are ready to change the format of our participation in the election campaign and we would like to urge all international organizations engaged in the observation of the elections to make cessation of political repressions a condition for their arrival.
