Trial of Hrodna UCP activists against City Executive Committee is over

Hearing of the case of members of Hrodna affiliate of the United Civil Party and the local City Executive Committee lasted three months. Our reporter Syarhei Apanovich comes up with details:

"Hrodna activists complained about the executive power. Let me remind you that young people asked to allow them conducted several pickets and a meeting in the centre of the city in December, 2007. However, officials refused to do it. Activists sent complaints about the refusals and asked for explanations.

Leninski District Court decided that all appeals for mass actions in Hrodna should be approved by the police, firemen and the emergency hospital first.

The head of Hrodna affiliate of the UCP Yury Istomin thinks that the decision is absurd because the police, firemen and the emergency hospital never conduct any negotiations and never sign any agreements if the appeal is not signed by the City Executive Committee”.

Representatives of Hrodna affiliate of the UCP are going to appeal the decision of Leninski District Court even if they have to turn to the UN human rights committee.
