UN Secretary-General calls for Belarusian authorities to release opposition activists
UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has expressed anxiety in connection with the arrests of opposition activists after the presidential election in Belarus and has urged to release them. "Ban Ki-moon is worried about the arrests of journalists, opposition presidential candidates and their adherents and demands to release them and respect human rights”, - claimed Martin Nesirky, the spokesperson for the Secretary-General, on Monday.
RIA “Novosti” also informs that Ban Ki-moon regretted the Belarusian authorities’ decision to close down the office of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in Minsk.
