Zatulіn: Putin to pass relations with Belarus to his successor in the best possible way
Vladimir Putin is planning to visit Belarus next week. Let us remind you that it will be the first meeting of Putin and Lukashenka this year. What should we expect after Putin’s visit?
The meeting will be important for both countries and will promote the development of Belarusian-Russian relations, says a deputy of the State Council, the head of the Institute of CIS member states Konstantin Zatulin:
“It has been a long time since the Russian President visited Belarus and I think that this meeting will be of great importance. Putin will leave his post in March or maybe earlier and he would like his successor to receive the state and its relations with other sates in the best possible way”.
Zatulin recalls that the Presidents have not been able to reach an understanding for a long time so this meeting is the last opportunity to change something. The expert stressed that it was very important that Lukashenka should improve relations with Putin because Putin is not only an outgoing President but a person who continues to influence everything in the Russian politics:
“You have to take into account that Putin is not passing into nothingness. He remains in the politics and will probably return to this post after a term indicated in the Constitution or maybe earlier.
Lukashenka will not meet an outgoing President, he will meet a president who continues to influence everything in the Russian politics whether he resigns or not”.
Let us remind you that the President of Russia and Belarus last met in December 2006.
