Authorities in Baranavichy ban picket against death penalty
Human rights activists in Baranavichy have been denied permission to stage a picket to mark the UN-declared International Day Against Death Penalty. They planned to hold the action on October 10 in order to attract attention of the public and the government to the problem of death penalty in Belarus. Belapan news agency reports that the authorities banned the picket citing irregularities in the application. The activists are set to file a complaint with the office of the prosecutor.
