Belarusians in Ukraine appeal to Victor Yushchenko on Freedom Day
The Belarusians that reside in the Lvov, Volyn and Rovno regions of Ukraine on March 25 marked 90 years since the first declratation of Belarus's independence. Prayers were served in the Belarusian Orthodox Christian churches. 18 people wrote the Belarusian dictation. The celebrations ended with the screening of the Belarusian Resistance film in Lvov. The participants of the celebrations also passed a special appeal to the president of Ukraine regarding the recent political repressions in Belarus, including the arrest of artist Ales Marachkin and blockade of artist Ales Pushkin's house by the police. The Belarusian diaspora in Ukraine demanded that Ukraine cut any military and economic contacts with Lukashenka's regime. They also asked to ban Belarusian officials and security officers associated with repressions from entering Ukraine.
