Family in Minsk evicted from apartment for defaulting payments to their children's orphanage

A couple deprived of parental rights has been evicted from their apartment in Minsk after failing to refund to the state for keeping their children in a government-funded orphanage. Six more eviction cases are currently pending in courts in the Belarusian capital, said Alena Herasimenka, the deputy chair of Minors' Affairs Commission at the Minsk City Hall.

Under Belarus's laws, underage orphans will keep their ownership rights of those apartments, reports Belta.

The government will let the apartments out in order to earn the money and cover the expenditures associated with caring for the children in orphanages. Alena Herasimenka noted that eviction is a compicated process especially when many residents are registered in a given apartment.

She added that the mechanism of eviction would soon be improved. There is a total of 3000 parents in Minsk who owe the government for taking care of their children.
