Fewer and fewer Belarusians are applying for asylum in Lithuania — statistics

The highest number of asylum applications from Belarusians in Lithuania was recorded in 2022 (416 people). This is according to data from the annual reports of the Migration Department.

Euroradio noted several interesting figures in the reports.

Asylum statistics

Here is how the number of applications submitted by Belarusian citizens changed over the years:

  • 2020: 81 applications
  • 2021: 260 applications
  • 2022: 416 applications (peak figure)
  • 2023: 287 applications
  • 2024: 140 applications
  • 2025: 83 applications

Threat to National Security

The revocation of protection and residence rights most often occurred through the cancellation of residence permits on the grounds of being considered a “threat to national security.”
