І. Kazulіna: “If my husband forwarded a petition to Lukashenka that wouldn’t be Kazulin”

It could have released him from prison, says the political prisoner’s wife Iryna. Alyaksandr Lukashenka claimed in his interview with a Spanish newspaper “El Pais” that he would consider the issue of releasing the former presidential candidate Alyaksandr Kazulin if he asked him about it. 
“The court took the decision. The institution is independent of the authorities. I respect the decision. The only thing I can do is pardon him. If the convict asks for it I will consider his petition and answer if I can release him or not”, - said Lukashenka.

But there will probably be no petition. That’s what the political prisoner’s wife Iryna Kazulina said in an interview with the European Radio for Belarus:

“First of all, my husband does not plead guilty. Second, he thinks that it was Lukashenka’s personal desire to imprison him. So he will not forward any petition. You can try to reach your goal but you should not be using any means for it.

He will not bend like this although, judging by my life experience, I understand that they could have released him if he had done it. But there is something else to it. It’s his position. If Kazulin forwarded a petition that would not be Kazulin but some other person”.
