Minsk regional history museum to showcase exposition on Grand Duchy of Lithuania
A new exposition will be created at the Maladzechna-based Minsk Regional History Museum in 2009. It will showcase the historic events on the territory of the Minsk region during the times of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, the Polish Kingdom and the Russian Empire. The major collections will represent numismatic and archeological items. The archeological collections includes over 12,000 items. The workcrafts from glass, leather, bones dated 11th-17th centuries.
The numismatic collection has gathered over 11,500 coins, including 14 treasures. The biggest was found in the village of Maroski, the Maladzechan district in 1971. It contained 5683 coins.
Visitors will also be able to see the 18th-century gold-weaved Slutsk belts that were received by the museum in 1968 from the Moscow State History Museum, ancient books from Cologne, Niasvizh, Vilnius, Warsaw, Sandamir, Unev, Moscow as well as 17th-century manuscripts in the old Belarusian language written in Latin alphabet and many other items.
