October 1 - International day of elderly people
The Day of elderly people is marked today all over the world. In the beginning of the 90s it was marked only in Europe, then - in America, and the rest of the world joined in the late 90s. Various kinds of festivals, conferences and congresses, dedicated to elderly people and their rights in the society, are traditionally conducted on this day. Some TV- and radio- channels specially broadcast programs aimed at elderly people's tastes, on October 1. Approximately 2,5 million pensioners live in Belarus, about 70 thousand of them are veterans of the Great Patriotic war. More than 700 Belarusians have lived for 100 years and more, about twenty people have crosses the age of 110.
