“One-hour’s silence” in protest against new law “On mass media” to take place in bynet today
"One-hours’ silence” in protest against the new law “On mass media” that was adopted by the House of Representatives in the second reading yesterday will take place in bynet today. The Belarusian Association of Journalists has urged to do it. BAJ suggests that people who “care about the problem of access to information and its distribution” should place black banners on their websites – “as a symbol of the funeral of the freedom of speech” and should not update their websites and blogs from 12 to 1 p.m.
"We are expressing a protest against the urgent adoption of the law “On mass media” without any public discussion or an international expertise, ... we would like to inform bynet users that the htreat of closing down numerous independent news resources and sources of impartial information is real as never before”, - is said in the appeal of BAJ.
