Opposition candidates fail to win seats in parliament: Yarmoshyna

None of the Belarusian opposition members have made it into the parliament, Lidziya Yarmoshyna, the chairwoman of the Central Election Commission said in a statement. Anatol Lyabedzka, the leader of United Civic Party, received 9.7 percent of votes; Ihar Rynkevich from the Belarusian Social Democratic Party (Hramada) -- 15 percent; Siarhei Kalyakin, the leader of the Party of Communists -- 15.6 percent; Volha Kozulina -- 8.6 percent; Ales Mikhalevich -- 14 percent; Lyudmila Gryaznova -- 10.6 percent; MP Volha Abramava -- 24 percent.

Many current MPs were re-elected as deputies to the House of Representatives.



Many local officials also won seats in the parliament, including Uladzimir Andreichanka, the chairman of the Vitsebsk regional administration, his deputy Piotr Yuzhyk; Alexander Popkov, a deputy head of the presidential administration; Anatol Hlaz, a deputy chairman of the Mahilyou regional administration; Valery Ivanov, the chairman of the Shklou district administration and many others.
