State-owned printing house terminates contract with independent newspaper

The Belarusian Press House, a state-owned printing giant, has terminated a contract about printing the independent newspaper Borisovskiye Novosti. The issue was signed on January 8, 2009, editor-in-chief Anatol Bukas told the European Radio for Belarus.  Bukas: Today I had an appointment with Stanislau Kazak, a deputy director of the Belarusian Press House. However, our matter was not resolved. So I had to visit Information Minister Uladzimir Rusakevich. He heard me out and proposed to wait till lunchtime.

The printer justified its decision to terminate a contract on the grounds that the Borisov-based newspaper had violated the routine schedule. Anatol Bukas and the printer also failed to reach a payment procedure deal. The printing house demands a downpayment for the whole month, while the entrepreneur wants to revise this provision in the contract. Anyway, the payment was to be made before January 25. It means there is still time to wire the payment.

Borisovskiye Novosti can't print in a Borisov-based printing house since 1996. It had to print in Maladzechna, Orsha and two private printing companies in Minsk. Onle one issue of the newsapaper was printed by the state-owned Belarusian Press House.
