2 die as air baloon falls near Minsk
Two people died and two were injured when an air baloon crashed in the Minsk district. The accident took place in the evening of May 16 in the village of Syomkava. During a thunderstorm, the baloon touched on several houses, throwing several people out of the basket. Gas bottles exploded when the baloon hit the ground. Emergencies Ministry's spokesman Vital Navitski told the European Radio for Belarus that two private house were damaged during the impact.
"Two people fell out of the basket. After the impact, three gas bottles, 35-liters each, exploded setting the basket on fire", Navitski confirmed.
The blaze was quickly put out by fire-fighters. A 44-year-old entrepreneur and his 32-year-old wife were thrown out of the basket and died on the spot. Their 8-year-old daughter and instructor were injured and admitted to a hospital. The instructor is the owner of the baloon.
The office of the district prosecutor and a commission from the Department of Aviation are probing the accident. Experts said that the baloon belonged to a private person. The owner had a legal license for the baloon.
