25,000 packs of contraband cigarettes destroyed near Minsk
The customs authorities have destroyed 25 thousand packs of comtraband cigaretts at a training range in Kaladzichy near Minsk. Mostly Russian and Ukrainian brands ended up under the tracks of special vehicles, reports the Minsk-based TV channel STV. A pile of cigarette boxes got accumulated at the Customs Committee for six months from small confiscated batches. It was decided it would be easier and cheaper to destroy the whole pile at once rather than to send each small batch for expertise.
Customs officials said that cigarettes are as usual smuggled in transit from Russia, Ukrain to the Baltic countries and further into Europe. Every smuggler dreams that his cargo ends up in the UK, because in Belarus one pack of cigarettes costs around one dollar while in the UK up to 8 pounds.
