59 believers fasting for return of St Joseph Cathedral

59 people from Minsk and the town of Ivianets in the Valozhyn district are fasting in order to return the buildings of St Joseph Cathedral in Minsk to parishers.  52 women and 7 men of the Roman Catholic and Greek-Catholic faiths are taking part in the action which started on August 30. Every participant has certain days of fasting during the week.

Last year, over 30,000 signatures were gathered demanding to return the church to believers. But Minsk City Hall has plans to develop the buildings into a hotel and a restaurant.

Since March 19, 2005, believers from the St Joseph parish have staged daily prayers in front of the building seeking to return the cathedral.
