76 opposition members registered as parliamentary candidates
Out of 98 representatives of the United Pro-Democracy Forces, 76 people have been registered as candidates to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections, preliminary reports suggest. 22 opposition nominees were denied registration by local election commissions on the grounds that they had submitted false signatures or did not declare their income properly.
Out 29 members of the United Civic Party, 4 nominees were denied registration. 5 out of 24 members of the Belarusian Popular Front failed to register, including party leaders Vintsuk Viachorka and Viktar Ivashkevich. Out of 18 nominees from the Belarusian Party of Communists, 5 were denied registration. 3 out of 13 members of the Belarusian Social Democratic Party were denied registration, too.
The contenders who have not been registered will send appeals to the Central Elections Commission, reports Belapan
