8 years since disappearance of journalist Zmitser Zavadski
8 years has passed since the disappearance of an ORT channel cameraman Zmitser Zavadski. He disappeared on his way to airport “Misnk-2” on July 7, 2000. Nothing is known about the journalist’s fate.
The disappearance of Zmitser Zavadski is considered to be officially uncovered. Officers of special troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs “Almaz” Valery Ihnatovich and Maxim Malik were sentenced to life imprisonment in 2002. A former student of Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alyaksei Huz was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment and some Syarhei Savushkin was sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. They did not plead guilty. It was a closed hearing. The investigation did not manage to find the body of the journalist.
“Charter-97” noted that the demand to reveal the truth about the disappearance of Zmitser Zavadski is contained in resolutions of the UN human rights commission and the Parliamentary Assemblies of the Council of Europe and OCSE.
