HLYBOKAYE (Yadviga Styasheuskaya, ERB) -- Several hundread people from across Belarus, Latvia and Russia gathered yesterday in the village of Mosary, Hlybokaye district in the northern Belarus in order to plant trees on the Alley of Soberness.

Most of the participants were members of Anonymous Alcoholics societies. Members of the Belarusian non-drinking clubs mounted two crosses -- Catholic and Orthodox -- on the road leading to the alley.

The action was spearheaded and organized by Jozas Bulka, the local Roman Catholic priest.

Fr Jozas Bulka says he plans to turn the village of Mosar into a drinking-free zone. He notes that people stopped brewing moonshine and selling spirit in the village. Bulka also wants the local authorities to ban the village shops from selling alcohol.
