Ales Byalyatski: "New executive director of Freedom House is deep in Belarusian issue”
David Kramer will head the international human rights organization Freedom House. He is known as a specialist in the Belarusian issue.
ERB has asked a human rights activist Ales Byalyatski whether the changes in the administration of Freedom House may affect the organization’s attitude to Belarus.
Byalyatski: "Kramer’s article dedicated to the policy of Germany and the USA concerning Belarus has been out recently. It testifies to the fact that he is deep in the Belarusian issue. The conclusions of Freedom House concerning Belarus are going to be unbiased”.
The human rights activist has noted that the previous evaluations of Freedom House were unbiased and rather strict. Belarus took the last positions in ratings of formal signs of freedom level.
The Assistant Secretary of State served for three years as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State of Condoleezza Rice for European and Eurasian Affairs, focusing on Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Ukraine. The new head of the organization will take over as executive director on October 4.
