Ales Byalyatskі: UN resolution is an alarm signal for Belarusian authorities

The United Nations Organization denounces Belarus for violation of human rights. The resolution was adopted on November 21. 68 states voted pro and 32 – contra. The document composed by 33 states expresses “anxiety about further usage of the criminal justice system to frighten the political opposition and human rights defenders”.

ERB asked a human rights defender Ales Byalyatskі to comment on the issue:

It is an impartial international appraisal of the situation concerning human rights in Belarus. It is unpleasant to be on the list of countries receiving such resolution from the UN regardless of what the Belarusian authorities are going to answer. It is an alarm signal for the Belarusian authorities”.
