Appeal by Belarusian hummer throwers to be examined in December

The Court of Arbitration for Sport is to examine a doping case against Belarusian hammer throwers Vadzim Dzevyatouski (Vadim Devyatovskiy) and Ivan Tsikhan on January 4 and 5.   The athletes were stripped of the medals that they won at the 2008 Beijing Olympics after they tested positive for abnormal levels of testosterone.

The 32-year-old Dzevyatouski, who finished second at the Beijing Olympic but had his silver medal taken away, faces a lifetime ban from the sport for two doping violations. He was suspended for the first doping violation from 2000 to 2002.

He finished fourth at the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004 and won silver at the 2005 World Championships.
The 33-year-old Tsikhan, who won three consecutive world titles, in 2003, 2005 and 2007, and earned the silver medal at the 2004 Athens Olympics, finished in third place in Beijing but was stripped of his bronze medal. Since it was his first doping offense, he faces a two-year ban.
