August 25 - the Day of revival of Independence of Belarus
Today's the 19th anniversary of legal revival of the Belarusian independence.On August 25, 1991 the Supreme Council of the BSSR provided the Declaration on State Sovereignty of Belarus the status of the constitutional law.
It happened after the defeat of the August putsch in Moscow. Under the pressure of the deputy opposition of the Belarusian Popular Front leaded by Zianon Pazniak the pro-communist majority of the Supreme Council voted for independence of Belarus from Moscow.
Let us remind you that the final breakdown of the Soviet Union was executed by signing of Belavezhski agreement in December 1991. Belarus has become an independent state.
