Australian magnate to allocate $1 million for restoration of Hrodna synagogue

It is not clear how much money will be needed for the restoration but the sum will definitely exceed 1 million dollars.
An Australian oil magnate got interested in the restoration. He was found by Hrodna rabbi Itshak Kopman. The Australian’s father originated from Hrodna and lived near the synagogue. He was the only one to survive World War II out of the whole family and moved to Israel.

The restoration has already started: plaster and brick samples have been sent to an expertise in Minsk. Hrodna executive committee also takes part in it: it has allocated 20 million roubles for the project. “Hrodna civil project” was suggested dealing with the work but the enterprise has not given any reply yet.
