Belarus ice hockey team has no retro uniform to mark IIHF's 100th anniversary
Belarus ice hockey squad will not be able to take part in the celebrations to mark the 100th anniversary of the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF).
The action will take place during the World Cup tournament in Canada. To mark the jubilee, every team will play one game wearing retro uniforms.
Belarus is the only team that will not join the action because "it had no national team before becoming independent in 1991", Belapan reports citing IIHF's official web site. However, Belarus will play France on May 7, when the French will wear old jerseys.
The teams picked the uniforms associated with some historic events. For example, Latvia will play Canada on May 4 in the jerseys that they used at the world championships before the Soviet occupation in 1933-1939. On May 2 Russian side will play against Italy in the jerseys of the 1956 USSR team when the Soviets won their first Olympic gold.
