Belarus nationals involved in scandal over trafficking in human organs
Police in Ukraine have busted a criminal group, the so called 'black transplantollogists' which included among others Ukrainian surgeons from the National Institute of Surgery and Transplantology. The gang operated for about three years, reports Podrobnosti. Nationals of Ukraine, Russia, Moldova, Belarus and Uzbekistan were taken to Azerbaijan and Equador in order to transplant their organs to recipient in Israel.
Some 50 people were used as donors (mostly healthy women aged between 18-25) who were recruited on the internet.
Operations to transplant a kidney were carried out in Azerbaijan and in Equador (on Belarusian citizens). Several surgeries were conducted at the National Transplantology Institute in Kiev, Ukraine.
Each donor would receive $10,000 for selling its kidney. Recipients had to pay $100,000-$150,000. Surgeons were paid $15,000-20,000 for every surgery.
