Belarus parliament resumes work after summer break
The borth chambers of the National Assembly today began their fall session. Electing a new speaker will take a central stage on the first day of work of the House of Representatives, reports Belapan.
Under the Constitution, the new chairman of the lower chamber will be picked from among lawmakers. A candidate who will be backed by more than a half of the total number of MPs will be considered the winner.
On September 11, Uladzimir Kanaplyou, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the most loyal supporter of Alexander Lukashenka, resigned citing health reasons.
