Belarus raises electricity tariffs

The Belarusian government has drafted proposals to raise the utilities tariffs by $3 at the cost of increasing tariffs for electricity for households, reports Belarus Partisan referring to the Russian news agency PRIME-TASS. It is yet to become known when the decision could be voiced.

Effective from January 1, 2008 the utilities tariffs for households have grown by $5 in the equivalent of an average two-bedroom apartment of 45 sq.m. for a family of three. It was announced that the tariffs would not be increased beyond the $5 level, but this restriction was exhausted already in the first quarter.

According to PRIME-TASS, the Belarusian government is drafting a resolution to raise heat and electricity tariffs for industrial consumers. As from January 1, the costs of the natural gas for industrial consumers were raised by 25.3 percent.
