Belarus refuses to transit Ukraine's electricity to Lithuania
Ukraine is not yet able to begin exporting electricity to Lithuania, because Belarus does not wish to allow its transit, Ukraine's first deputy energy minister Oleg Bugayov said in a statement.
According to the Ukrainian officials, Lithuania said during the recent three-party talks it was ready to import electricity beginning from 2010. But Belarus has told Ukraine lately that it could ensure independent electricity deliveries to Lithuania. At the same time, Belarus expressed readiness to purchase the Ukrainian electrical energy, reports the Interfax news agency.
Earlier reports suggested that Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine planned to sign a deal in May 2009 to supply the Ukrainian electricity to Lithuania.
