Belarusians ask refuge in Russia more often than citizens of the Baltic States
Two inhabitants of Belarus appealed to the Federal Migration Service of Russia asking to provide them the refugee status, during 7 months of this year. On the whole, more than 40 Belarusians asked for refuge in the neighbouring country for the last 5 years, informs "Your Country's Tomorrow". Nevertheless, the Russian authorities are not very willing to give refuge to Belarusians. In the year 2008 they satisfied only 1 application, and that was the only case of the kind for the last 5 years.
In addition to the above, the biggest quantity of our countrymen who asked for refuge in Russia was registered in the year 2008. 12 Belarusians applied for the refugee status, and 5 - for provisional asylum. In the year 2007 15 people from Belarus wanted to become refugees in Russia.
Belarus is ahead of all the Baltic States taken together in this regard. For instance, only 7 people from Latvia wanted to become refugees in Russia for the last 5 years, the same with Estonia, and from Lithuania - only 3.
