Brest human rights activist tries “to open” Baranavichy elections in court
A Brest lawyer Uladzimir Malei tried to find out in what jobs the members of Baranavichy City Election Committee worked with the help of the court.
According to Malei, only three members of Baranavichy City Election Commission have their places of employment indicated on the website of the regional election committee – the chairperson, deputy chairperson and secretary. He thinks that the information is kept a secret on purpose because a third of the commission probably consists of state officials which is a violation of the Election Code.
Baranavichy human rights activists and Malei addressed the City Executive Committee, higher election committees and the Office of the Public Prosecutor but their efforts were unsuccessful.
Uladzimir Malei’s appeal about non-disclosure was rejected by the Supreme Court – the final degree of jurisdiction. It was stated that the law did not require to inform about it.
